San Diego's Best Chinese
This place is the only restaurant in Gaslamp with Fine Chinese cuisine, So for that matter everyone here will make your dining experience INCREDIBLE! The hostesses are very nice and good looking girls, The servers are excellent and quick, and the Chef is the best. Ever! The food is so good. Specialty drinks are unique and fun. Ambiance is beautiful, With a gorgeous waterfall in bar area and Huge fish tank in restaurant. Very impressive. Keep up the good work Blue Ginger! A+
GLAD TO FIND IT!
MY GIRLFRIEND AND I VISITED BLUE GINGER IN JANUARY AND HAVE RETURNED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE. WE WERE VERY GLAD TO FIND A CHINESE RESTAURANT IN DOWN TOWN. THE ATMOSPHERE WAS VERY INVITING AND THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. AS WE ENTERED THE RESTAURANT, WE WERE TAKEN THROUGH THE BAR/LOUNGE WHERE WE PASSED BY A WATER FALL THAT HAD A MOVIE PROJECTED ON IT. THEN WE WERE SEATED IN THE DINING ROOM UNDER A BEAUTIFUL AQUARIUM. OUR SERVER SEAN WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL WITH THE MENU. WE HAD THE “GREAT WALL-NUT SHRIMP” AND THE “DELICATE RICE NOODLES” BOTH DISHES WERE WONDERFUL. ALL TOGETHER WE HAD A VERY ENJOYABLE TIME. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE!
An Awesome Place to Eat
I loved eating at Blue Ginger. The food was great, and the service was even better. A friendly atmosphere, romantic ambiance, and an over all good time. The music was soothing and went well with the over all decor. I thuroughly enjoyed my evening and plan on returning.
Great Food, Iffy Service
Our party of eight enjoyed the food, which had great flavor and generous portions. We especially like the shrimp with asparagus and Crab Rangoon. The moo shu dishes were a hit as well. The aquarium and decor made for a pleasant atmosphere.
The only damper was the inconsistent service. Drinks took a while to arrive, especially the second round. Appetizers came mostly at the same time, but main dishes arrived at intervals and without steamed rice and plates until everyone had been served. At the end it took some time to get the wait staff's attention to take care of the bill.
In short, we enjoyed the wonderful food and varied menu, but the service could be tightened up for a better overall experience.
Delicious Lunch Buffet
I work downtown and rarely dine at the many restaurants during lunch. Past buffet experiences conjur memories of unappetizing luke-warm choices. Blue Ginger has changed my perspective on such lunch buffets. The food was fresh and steaming hot. The price is a great deal considering how full I was after lunch. The large fish tank and wall-size waterfall provide a serene anbiance to the bustling streets of Downtown San Diego. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner at Blue Ginger. Thanks!
Ginger blues
I was looking forward to sampling the cream cheese wontons listed online for them, only to discover they were not offered, unless you were willing to eat crab mixed in, which I cannot. So I tried the lettuce wraps, where they missed the point of the "wrap", providing floppy, misshapen lettuce better suited for a salad bowl. Despite a request to serve the wraps along with the other entrees, they were served early, so two out of our party of four were forced to eat our entrees twenty minutes before the other two were served theirs. Overall, a high-priced disappointing experience.
Not gift certificate friendly..
We received a very nice gift certificate from our son... we decided to try the Blue Ginger... all went well until we presented the certificate.. from that point we were treated like 2nd class persons... and when we tried to pay our bill... $75 dollars worth.. we had to wait nearly half an hour for the Restaurant Manager to figure out how to use the ceriificates... a very unpleasant experience...
Good Food, Rushed Service
The ambiance was upscale, the food was very tasty - good quality and fresh. The service timing was a little off - we barely mid-way through our soup when they brought the entrees, and they tried to take our food and plates away while we were obviously still eating multiple times. The timing was off for us to relax and enjoy the meal. The restaurant wasn't half full - no reason to rush us. We will probably do take out there from now on.
Disappointing Birthday Dinner
My wife and I were looking forward to celebrating my mother's 75th birthday at the Blue Ginger. All three of us had high expectations of a unique and memorable dinning experience. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Our waiter was not very knowledgeable about the menu. He needed to go and asked someone about the specifics on various enquiries we made about the menu. I wanted to try one of the Blue Ginger's "signature martinis" but the one I requested, was not available? We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, and they were good. Not exceptional, but they were tasty. We also ordered some soup; this took about 45 minutes to get to our table. I ordered the hot and sour soup, but the waiter brought me egg drop. When I mentioned that this was not hot and sour soup, he insisted that it was. My wife received the hot and sour soup, and we made the exchange. The main dishes took about an hour after the soup was served. The food was good, but not anything special. I was expecting something a little more imaginative. This was good Chinese food, but not exceptional. I'm not sure if we will make a return visit or not. It seems there are a lot of very good Chinese restaurants in the area to choose from. We believe we can receive much better service, and at least as good or better food at several other restaurants. Sorry, that’s how I see it.
Very BAD Service, good food
I went to the restaurant for my anniversary dinner. Here's what we experienced:
- Got the appetizers, but no silverware, I had to ask the server for it.
- Server forgot to get the silvervare, I had to get up & find a server to ask for it.
- Server gets a fork each (only)!!
- We asked another server to get us napkins, he got only one napkin & leaves before I could ask for another.
- Server gets food but no plates.
- We had to ask a server to get us plates & another napkin.
- I called the napkin-server to tell him that he got us only 1 napkin.....he left before I could finish speaking & got another one. I told him that I got the second one already....if he had only let me finish my sentence!
To be fair, I wouldn't say that the servers were rude, but they didn't seem to care. Overall food was good, martini's were bad & service sucked. I ended up tipping 10% because my wife insisted that I cannot punish the servers for being dumb!!
BAD Service
The worst service I have ever experienced. My reservation was lost, no waitress until a bus boy went and found one after we sat there for 15 minutes. The waitress needed us to point at the menu to what we wanted, then came back 3 times because she forgot what we said. No plates for appetizers, my Mom never got her entree. No offers of drinks or desert. Not a word about the forgotten entree, just a blank stare. The food is OK, but not great. Don't waste your time or money here, they obviously don't want any return business.
BEWARE! The Worst Valentines Experience EVER!!
This place is terrible!!! I will never go back and neither should you! We arrived at 8 for our Valentines Day dinner. We asked to wait at the bar until our table was ready. The Bartender was very busy making drinks for all the waiters and seemed irritated and it showed when she came to finally help us. She was not very helpful when asked a question about wine, made a rude comment and handed us the wine list then went back to making more drinks for the waiters while my wife took a quick glance. As we were finally about to order drinks, we got word that our table was ready and we were seated with menus. 17-20 minutes went by and KNOW ONE acknowledged us at all, not even water was given to us. We understood it was busy but this was ridiculousness. The hostess came over and asked if we had been taken care of and I said NO! She said she would go get someone and I saw her tell a waiter with my own eyes but, 5-7 minutes later....NOTHING! We had been at our table for at least 25 minutes and not one server came to greet us, I even saw a couple who came in after us seated in another section getting greeted by a server so we got up and left at that moment and as we were walking out, we saw another women telling off one of the servers for some reason I can only imagine being related to our experience. I would have told someone on the way out how bad the service was, like the hostess or the manager, but there was know one to be found anywhere. We were ready to spend about $150 that night but luckily we got out of there having only paid $6 for parking. I work in the Tennis Country Club Industry with many wealthy friends and clients in San Diego. I am going to spread the word to never go to this place downtown.
Never even got to eat.
I took my girlfriend out for her birthday on Feb 15 and had reservations booked in advance. When we arrived at Blue Ginger the host (Mark) said that the entire restaurant was filled when a party of 20 turned into a party of 60. He recommended that we try Red Pearl Kitchen and that if we didn't like that place he would give us a free meal at Blue Ginger. He said that if we started walking there he would have a table booked for us but when we arrived at Red Pearl they told us we would have to wait an hour. We decided to eat at a different restaurant downtown but we stopped by Blue Ginger to speak to Mark and he gave us an email address and told us to contact him and he would try to make it up to us. Well the email address didn't work and he has ignored the phone calls.
The worst restaurant ever
This is the worst restaurant ever. Believe me I used to work there. While the restaurant inside is beautiful, don't be fooled like I was. When I took the job I thought that i was going to a very nice new restaurant, but as and experienced server I'll admit that I gave bad service while there. It was an impossible task to run a restaurant with no training and no help. I was oftern asked to run the entire restaurant, bar and all, by myself. How could anyone give good service being asked to do so much.
I could go on and on about the how bad it is, but just trust me, you don't want to eat there. I had so many upset customers it's a wonder they are still open.
A sad PF Chang's knock off...
Changs has become a once a month event for us. It's pretty good, and you have to love the atmosphere. I heard about Blue Ginger from a friend and decided to give it a shot. Sadly, it's nothing but a PF Changs knock off. The menu is even simular! Just suck it up and hit the Changs. Faaaaar better food and service.
