    Very upscale with excellent service

There aren't very many tables here so it feels a little cramped but the service is excellent. They said a jacket was required but everybody wasn't wearing tuxedos, just turtlenecks and sportcoats. The steaks were huge, much bigger than we expected. Probably one of the top restaurants in La Jolla as far as price.

    Fabulous meal and service

My husband and I took my mother and father to this great restaurant for my mother's birthday. We were all blown away by the view, service and food. We were seated at a table in the middle of the room so we could see the view through all the windows. This restaurant is one of the few that carries my husband's favorite wine. The waiters were very attentive. They brought out all of our food at the same time and displayed it with awesome flair. My father started to get up and a waiter was right there to help him his seat. The food was superb. You could cut the filet mignon with a butter knife. And the desserts are to die for. After the meal, my parents stepped out to the balcony to take in the view of the pacific ocean. As we left, they gave my mother a rose and a box of chocolates to bring home. We loved every moment of the night. Sky Room made my mother's birthday a very special day.

    A much needed Response

Now that I am not affiliated with the room, I have for some time wanted to badly respond to the review below. The guests from Chicago showed up 45 minutes before their reservation and should have been turned away and asked to come back when they were scheduled to be seated because at that time we had a party of 12 which was a wedding dinner after just having gotten married on site. So these two show up at the same time a party of 12 who just spent several thousand dollars on a wedding on our propriety. (BTW room seats 25 occupancy, so 12 ppl is a BIG party up there, and requires not only alot of attention, but a gap from other tables being seated of 30 min) I mentioned to them that they came in at an inopportune time because of the wedding party but we could take care of them. I offered them the most romantic table in the restaurant and they responded with "we get enough romance at home". they had an attitude that all restaurants in SD are horrible and don't compare to their precious Chicago. They asked the waiter who was taking care of the wedding party if he was overwhelmed by the wedding party. We all we're dumbfounded by their unawerness of the rest of the world around them. truly dumbfounded. It was possibly the rudest thing I've encountered as a Proffessional in this industry ever. And thats saying something. These two we're THE most UNPLEASENT guest we've ever encountered, they destroyed their own evening by showing up 45 minutes early (which usually is not recomended without a heads up to us, but usually, ... we can work around that, that night it was impossible and the fact that they acted like they were the most important people in the room, threated their waiter horribly (who was 29 and in college for law school at the time)... but to turn around and find out that these two horrendous guests have the ability, and feel they have the right, to critize the room. Was just way to much to swallow. But I don't work their anymore, and I've been dying to get this off our chest. Everyone in the Sky Room remembers you two. And they all hope with all sincereity to never see you again. If you come in there with an attitude that everyone sux. they probably will. you two need to move back to Chicago and start cheating on eachother immediatly, cuase the frigid air around your table was chilling.

    please remove my other "review"

its is DEFINATLY not the restaurant response... and I've been trying to get you guys to take that off ever since I found out you actually posted it. Truth be told I was just venting and never in a million years thought you would post it. and i don't work there so its NOT A RESTAURANT RESPONSE. its a ex-waiter who wishes either I had been more vulgar or you had been more particular... either way its not a response from the restaurant since I don't work there... do not post this as a review, and remove the other review. immediatly

This MUST is an absolute bust

My boyfriend and I moved here from Chicago a year ago and we have struggled to find great restaurants in San Diego. We both discovered the Sky Room and knew that it was a must. However, we were more than disappointed with our decision to dine here b/c were neglected throughout our dinner. We waited 15 - 20 minutes just to get our drinks. I asked for a glass of ice... it never showed. Consistently, we had to give reminders! Our server was in his late thirties and he presented himself as if this were his "college job." We mentioned our lack of service and he seemed shocked that we even mentioned it. I've been to many great restaurants and never would I have imagined to be this disappointed. The Sky Room has only "room" for improvement.

    The Lie Room

About three weeks ago, we made reservations for The Sky Room to celebrate my birthday. We had read glowing reviews. I went online and was impressed – only 12 tables, all with great views (thus the name –“sky room”). My husband and I arrived and were escorted to a booth. My husband is a big guy, so we asked for a table, and were promptly seated in a table where my view was of a coat rack and my husband was looking directly at a supporting pillar. Not what we expected. A female employee explained that they would open the blinds when the sun started to set. I explained it didn’t matter from where we were sitting, as my husband had no view of the windows (my view was a partial view to the left of the coat rack, but not great). I further explained that it was my understanding that all tables were along the windows with views – at which time the female employee explained that the restaurant had put in additional tables that evening. I then explained it was my birthday, we had made reservations three weeks ago, and asked if we could sit at the one remaining table near a window. We were told that it was reserved for a party of three (which made no sense, since both the booth and table we were at could seat three). When we said we were leaving, the female said “Have a Happy Birthday,” which we took as quite a sarcastic remark under the circumstances. I was actually in shock at the disdainful way we were treated. Having not dined there previously, I have no other impression at this point. If anyone had taken a moment to apologize or offer the slightest kindness, we would have stayed. Instead, we felt dismissed. Obviously, the evening was not as we expected. The Sky Room turned out to be a profound disappointment.
