Sushi Itto - Hillcrest

I can't say much about downtown because I have never been there. The reason for that is because all I have been hearing is negative reviews about both service and food product. Although, the Sushi Itto in Hilcrest is great! Their selection on sushi is different. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of food I would think is excellent. Sushi Itto has a cool modern image all around with the music and style. Parking is a bit difficult.

Great experience overall. The only problem is that the sushi takes way too long.

First time at Sushi Itto and I was pleasantly surprised. I usually pay 8 to 9 bucks for maguro at other ('flavor of the month') sushi joints; Sushi itto had a much better quality for only 5 bucks!!!. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very nice. I tried a couple of their specialties and thought they were out of this world. Overall, I was extremely satisfied, I walked out having had a great meal for less than I do at other sushi joints / restaurants (if you live in SD you probably know which ones I'm talking about).

this place was hopping. I thought it was a fun place to go. enjoyed it.

Average sushi restaurant. The sushi wasn't screaming freshness neither was it representative of the best parts of the fish. I would suggest that you don't order a la carte, do that at a nicer sushi restaurant. Instead, order the sushi combination platters. Its a better value. The rolls are creative and you will like them.

(Hillcrest) I called ahead to see what time they open. The guy told me something like 11am. I showed up at 11:30 and they wouldn't open the doors. They said the sushi bar wasn't ready so they didn't want to open. Come back at noon. I told the manager, he didn't care one bit. He seemed irritated that I was complaining and didn't care if I ever ate there again. I ended up eating at Bronx pizza down the street. Their food isn't bad, I'd say it's you avg sushi. The service is terrible though.

PS..just remembered, my friend got towed that night, she parked in the lot adjacent to the restaurant, which is supposedly NOT for restaurant guests. LOOK OUT!

This was the second time I have been to Sushi Itto. I found the Shushi over priced and bland. The portions where way too small for the cost. We inded up being sat back by the bath rooms. After takening 20 minutes to get out bill, I was charged twice. Save your money and go to Sushi Deli 2 Down town.

I ate here with my girlfriend. We both eat sushi often and know good from bad. The sushi we got here was warm and not very fresh. I ordered the dumpings and they were soggy and not very tasty. I think I get better food at Costco. I server was nice, but the meal was not good. I also asked for tea and got a glass of water... (whatever) We'll never go back to this chain.

Arrived at the restaurant at 7pm on labor day. We waited by the front door for 5 minutes until someone greeted us showed us to our table. After waiting 15 minutes without having our drink order taken, I finally flagged down one of the waiters to take our order. At that time, I ordered our drinks and sushi. Our drinks arrived within 3 minutues (thank goodness), but our sushi didnt hit our table until 40 minutues later. During the time we waited for our sushi, my girlfriend and I watched the other customers around us and we could tell that they were angry as well. We witnessed at least 3 different parties leave the restaurant before ever being served, that is how bad the service was that day. This was our first time eating at Sushi Itto -Hillcrest. The sushi was very good and well prepared; although, the service was extremely horrible. I'm unsure if they were understaffed that night as I noticed the manager was out working on the floor.

I will never eat there or recoomend this restaurant to anyone, mediocre service and terrible food. The VONS deli section has better sushi.

Walk in and air permeates with the smell of UNFRESH raw fish! Took approximately 25 minutes to get simple sushi and restaurant was not even busy. Sushi was left on counter for more than 10 minutes. Salmon started to dry up. Horrible service- waitress was chit chatting with Bartender and never came to our table to see if our party needed anything. We had to ask bus boys for things. My friend gagged at the first bite. I don't know what drugs the positive reviewers are on but this is the worst dining experience I have ever had. Simply the worst restaurant to dine at for Sushi in all of San Diego and maybe all of the USA.

We waited 50 minutes for our food last night and there were only a few other couples in the place - the sushi is mediocre and the service is horrible.

I've been to the Sushi Ittos in Hillcrest and downtown. Had the same experience each time. The sushi sucks. Everything was rubbery and tasteless. And yes, it takes a couple months to be served. This is one of those freak restaurants where you watch the wait staff and they're all running around like mad, but nothing's being accomplished and no food is coming out. Weird. Anyhow...I was fooled twice. Shame on me.
