Mighty Zen!!!!
We visited china doll on a week night and were thrilled to find this hidden gem. The soho style attitude with the sexy young staff, cool vibe and incredible asian food was perfect for a late night dinner. The room is soothing in a dark jade color and the flames at the bar are as intoxicating as our lychee martinis. The food reminded us of Chinois on Main in Santa Monica and it was by far the best asian food we have had in this city. We are fans and want to spread the word since the place is really hard to find but so well worth it. It is nice when a cool place opens and the owners know how to do things right. I am not sure, but we heard that the owners are the same people that create the restaurants for the W hotels all over the country. .
SEXY DISCOVERY
COOL MUSIC, INCREDIBLE ASIAN FLAVORS AND A STAFF THAT OBVIOUSLY KNOWS HOW TO PLEASE. IT IS RARE THAT WE HAVE A TRULY PERFECT EVENING AND CHINA DOLL DELIVERS JUST THAT .... WITH AN "EDGE"
TOTALLY SUBLIME !!!!!
Good, but pricey
We had dinner with another couple and were told the entrees were served "family style" and were large enough for 2 people. We ordered the Lobster Indochine, which was delicious, but looked like a lot more food than it really was as it was really only the equivalent of 1 medium lobster (or even less). The Beef Tenderloin that we ordered was excellent as well but ridiculously small, definitely not enough for 2 people, and I believe it was $26. The drinks were also pricey. The desserts that we shared (Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Banana Spring Rolls) were very good and probably worth the money for the size that they were. The Wild Mushroom Potsticker was also a good choice for an appetizer. The ambience and decor were nice, though the place was extremely dead for a Saturday night. Hopefully all of their advertising will start to pay off for them!
