The Best Greek Food in SD

This quaint little resturant on the water has the BEST greek food you will find in San Diego.

wonderful friendly place with great food !

established in 1980 with such a nice location right on the water . . . awesome Greek favorites like gryos , spanikopita , saganaki and great baklava . . . also many beers and wines . . . sunset time is my favorite

    Very enjoyable experience

My husband and I ate here for the first time this past Wednesday and were very pleased with our experience. My husband was on crutches, and we found plenty of comfortable seating and Mr. Bishop was very helpful with explaining the menu to us, as we are unfamiliar with Greek food. We made our selections, and when I discovered who he was, I went up to the counter (there was no one in line at that time) and I asked him if he would sign one of his take out menus for my son who collects autographs of famous people. He very kindly signed for me and said that he didn't consider himself a famous person, but we have been listening to him on the radio for years, and my husband has been wanting to visit his restaurant for years. After we got our menu selections, Mr. Bishop sent his daughter over to our table with a delicious desert for us (which we did not order) It was very kind of him and it was delicious, and since we live in the San Diego area, we will go back again to eat this delicious food. love the grilled chicken and smiles in the restaurant

    A very dissappointing experience...

I was very excited when my tour guide told me that we were going to be stopping at a shopping plaza that had a Greek restauraunt on site. I stepped inside and the Greek Island Cafe was extremely busy with other tourists, much more than the adjoining burger joint and pizzaria. I took that as being a great sign of there being some great food on hand. I must say that they have a pretty great menu full of great Greek entrees and appetizers (and a few not so great dessert items). After making a tough decision on what to get I waited out the 10 minute line and the first part of my dissappointment starts here; I was told that after all of my waiting that they were out of the one item that I could actually have, being vegetarian and all. I understood that product outages are common occurrance (more so on San Diego menus than I have ever come across before out in the midwest), but that wasn't the most disappointing part. My girlfriend had ordered something and as I was paying I was taken aback at how RUDE the man taking my order was. Upon entrance there was a sign that said that ATM cards were accepted but when I handed my card to the older man taking my order he seemed disgruntled and put out that I was paying this way. This man appeared to be the same man who adorned the photo on the left of the menu, owner Jerry G. Bishop. He fidgeted with the pin pad of the ATM and once payment was finally going through he took my card and THREW it at me! Unproffessional? I think so. I tried to write it off as being a lunch rush act of frustration but things actually got WORSE! Owner Jerry G. Bishop then commented on my attire and said I was LOUSY! I said nothing to infuriate this man or was in no way disrespectful. I walked away quietly as my girlfriend enjoyed her small Greek Salad. The pita was pretty great, but the dining area was just as filthy as the pick up counter. Overall it was a very bad experience due to the unproffessional attitude of the owner of the establishment. When at Seaport Village opt to go for the shorter lined pizza and burger joints, they at least treat you as a customer should be treated!

    HORRIBLE - Do not go!!!

The website these people have are very very misleading! I wanted to come to a decent Greek Restaurant with actual silverware and this is a hole in the wall. Daphne's is way better than this embarressment. This restaurant claims to be a 4-5 star when they are no better than a Greek version of Taco Bell. Save your time and money. Also it took us 2 hours to find this place. They say they are next to the Convention Center? The owner is not bright, they are in Seaport Village.
