The place for steak & fun, Mate!
The Outback is definitely the place to go for steak. You could try Ruth's Chris, but in my opinion, that place is way over-priced, and the food is just about the same in terms of quality. The Outback has great service, great margaritas (go figure!), and great food. Try their cheese fries as an appetizer -- you'll be happy you did. Or, if you're a fan of onion rings, go for the Bloomin' Onion. Also, if you like lamb, their rack is delicious! And of course, their steak and prime rib are outstanding. If you're not into red meat, they have some great chicken and fish dishes. Oh yeah, for dessert, definitely try their Chocolate Thunder from Down Under! Note: If you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, this is not the place to go. It is usually very crowded ('cause it's so good) and noisy. If quiet is what you want (and you don't mind spending a lot of money), THEN you should go to Ruth's Chris!
SERVICE IS AWFUL!!
Our recent visit to your El Cajon Outback Steakhouse on 1/14/09 during San Diego Restaurant Week was AWFUL!! We were both highly disappointed with the service provided that night. Our first issue concerns the booking. We booked our table for 6.30 pm, one week before the night, yet we were not seated until 7.10 pm on the night of our meal and received no complimentary drinks as compensation for your error. Once we were finally given a table, we realized that we had been seated right next to the front door which was quite cold– the excuse was that this was the only table – even though we had booked a week in advance. Also, we had to ask several people to get the appropriate menu for restaurant week and once received the papers were soiled with food and had children’s drawing on them. Our second issue lies with the service provided; even though our daughter’s dinner selection was placed with the appetizer order it did not arrive until my husband and I were more than half way down with our main course. The reason given was that the fryer oil was being changed and would be a couple minutes. This confused me as I witnessed other fried foods being served to other tables around us. My daughter was half asleep by the time her meal arrived and did not eat. Further to this, our wine selection was billed incorrectly on our final bill and had to be adjusted. The reason given was that the menu we had on our table was an old menu and we “lucked out”. In the end, I barely touched my main course of rack of lamb and requested my entire plate it to be boxed up along with our desserts to be taking home. Upon arrival at home, it was realized that my meal was not in the bag as indicated by our server. As a result of the poor service and severe time delay of our seating, we were unable to make our scheduled appointment by 8.00pm. I am severely disappointed in the service provided that night; I and my husband are both regular customers and was appalled to see how far the restaurant’s standards had slipped in the short time since our last visit and during restaurant week.
