Great food, excellent wine
Don't even think of going here during racing season. The food, wine, and service are excellent. One of the few places we've ever ordered venison and liked it. Good place to catch celebs who live in RSF.
Outstanding food and wine
This is one of the best food and wine experiences in San Diego. I have lived in Los Angeles for over 25 years and would put this restaurant up to any establishment there. I have eaten at Pamplemousse more than a few times and have never had a meal that was less than perfect. The waiters and staff are friendly and courteous. The Seabass over polenta is exquiste, the Cowboy Ribeye is more than a meal, the kobe burger and fries make you almost want to make it a weekly occurrence. The wine list has more than you could ever hope for. Definitely go to Pamplemousse if you want the best food in San Diego!
Awesome!!!!!
We have dined at many many high class restaurants in the California!! The Pamplemousse Grille was great!! We had the best service, the best food, drinks, and desert ever!!!! The Chef Jeffrey Strauss greeted us at our table and offered us the specials for the night!!! We highly recommend this place for any date night!! We drove 1 1/2 hours for this reservation!!! Don't forget to cheer for the Pamplemousse Race Horse in this years Kentucky Derby!!!! Tyler / Jay Dan / Dana
Well prepared mainstream food
Unlike other reviewers, my friend and I received very good service. The kobe beef burger with truffled fries was to die for... unfortunately everything else we had was just so-so. The decor is heinous. Overall, if you want well done French, skip Pamplemousse and stick to Mille Fleur.
Awful reservations system
I should have known when I made the reservation. The person doing it had a terrible attitude. When we arrived to the restaurant, on time an 8:30, there were still 2 couples who made a reservation for 8 and 6 who made a reservation for 8:30 waiting for tables. It didn't look like we were going to have dinner before 9:30. The person at the desk was very unpolite didn't even apologize. The evening was a disaster. So we left ! This is how restaurants go downhill.
terrible food. no taste, no imagination
300 dollars later (for just 2 people)i am not only upset about my meal i am disappointed with the reviews. the food was a complete disaster. there is nothing french about this place. do not eat at this restaurant expecting that. If i had to classify the cusine, i would say it was southern californian neuvo. there was a large amounts of seafood dishes with avacado and lobster. i had a kim chei appetizer at a cost of 20 bucks) that was seafood coleslaw. it literally tasted like coleslaw. there was nothing kim chei ( about it. I later had the veal milenese and it was deep fried. the bread they served at the table lacked all flavor. the drinks were inconsistant. the salads were terrible. there was no imagination to them at all. the deserts were just as dissappointing. everything served at this place tasted like it was prepped with canned ingredients. and if anything called for a cream dressing, it tasted like they used mayonese. the restaurant is very disceving. it is in a business mall. it sits under a morgage and loan company. but it has been there for 10 years. (how i have no idea). I would not recommend this restaurant for any reason what so ever. there is nothing that you will gain by dining at this location.
