Tucked in a strip mall on Convoy Street between a kickboxing studio and a bakery sits a vacation to a foreign land. This escape is in the form of Phuong Trang, offering a selection of Pho, as well as traditional delights. Inspired by the Vietnamese home cooking style of Com Thang, meaning “month of meals” catering to family and friends, this establishment serves appetizing Vietnamese cuisine to Kearny Mesa locals. Besides appetizers, and Pho, diners can choose between Rice Paper Wraps, Stir Fried Noodles, Salads, Broken Rice Dishes, Seafood Specials, and Vegetarian dishes. The setting is tranquil, with tan wallpaper covering the walls, and small frames of various Vietnamese paintings adding to the décor. Also, Phuong Trang offers take out, so plenty of hungry patrons rush in for their boxed up lunch. For an exotic date night, a nontraditional business lunch, or family party, the place to be is Phuong Trang. Its welcoming atmosphere, vast selection, and hefty portions allow diners to sample favorites or expand the palate with something new.
The people at the restaurant was acting as they are two seperate stores. We made reservation over the phone, but when we came , there was no reservation under my name or phone number. Their excuses was "I just came to work , I was not here all day. Your name is not in the list, so I can not help you". If it was not for mom on mother's day then we would have leave. We waited for 35 minutes in order to get a table. The seafood noodle mom ordered tasted like water and salt, too much salt, I have never taste any vietnamese noodle soup that bad. When we told them how salty the noodle soup taste, they told us to pour some water to the soup. The grill fish taste like it has been dead for many days. We were hungry , so we ate it. We had to keep asking for eating ware or condiments that suppose to come with the food. The meal was waste of money. They did not know how to serve. Perhaps it was holiday, but still...not acceptable.
