    Can it be any better?

My daughter lives for top notch sushi. When we heard good things about Taka we snapped up an early evening reservation. Suffice to say she was not diasppointed - nor were her parents. The service was impeccable and the fish melt-in-your-mouth fresh. A top pick was the Rainbow Roll. Try it, you'll like it. The wine list is very limited so go for the food and cut them some slack on the beverages. Worth a special trip...

    Excellent sushi

Wow, I'm surprised to see all these negative reviews. My husband and I have dined at Taka several times, and so far, it is our favorite sushi spot in San Diego. In our experience, the service has been fine (nothing to write home about, but not bad) and the food has been excellent. But in our experience, there seem to be two kinds of sushi restaurants: The kind with fancy "Americanized" rolls with cream cheese, etc., and the kind that focus on offering simple and fresh cuisine. Taka is definitely the latter...

    Excellent presentation and taste

Taka Sushi is an excellent place to dine if you are in the mood for Asian or any type of cuisine. I recommend the eel sushi as it is my personal favorite. The popular choices such as the California rolls do not fall short though. A seat at the bar assures you an excellent show as the chefs prepare your food in front of you. I highly recommend this resturaunt.

    Super sushi, great location!

We tried Kiyo first--I would recommend Taka if you don't mind the expense. Reservations are a must, especially if you want to sit at the bar. We had the most wonderful, fresh sushi--the octopus was delicious. No bartender and limited entree menu. Our server was excellent & knowledgable. It was high priced, but deservedly so.

    ordinary

I heard lots of good and bad things about this restaurant, went there and the hostess was rude, sushi took forever and it was really expensive. I've been eating sushi accross the world but I don't see why they charge so much food was okay. I would rather go somewhere else for better time for the money.

    bad service

beautiful restaurant manager like lady. horrible service and food took too long. mayby seating of 50 and 5 chefs. food took forever. nothing special about that place. I've rather go somewhere else for over priced sushi.

    Bad bad bad service!!!!!!!!

Good food! Horrible service! Took ages to get our food. Waitress was too busy chit-chatting to take our order and bring the god damn sushi!! We had to assume what the dessert was. She didn't care to give us a dessert menu or didn't care to tell us about any dessert specials.

    Horrible service

I don’t recommend this place at all. I had a horrible experience at this restaurant. I have to admit the food was decent, however don’t you expect a good service when you spend more than $100? The service of "manager like" woman was just horrible. My husband and I visited San Diego for vacation, and we had a terrible experience. We got a table without good explanations. Apparently we were supposed to finish our food in 1 hour and leave. I complained to the woman who seemed to be a manager of this restaurant, and she started yelling at us. I think she doesn’t seem to know a 101 of customer service. Long story short, there are 70 Japanese restaurants in San Diego, and there are so many excellent Japanese restaurants besides Taka sushi. Why not spend good money for good time?

Service Sucks - Glad to hear others agree

I agree with the other posters on this board ... that sushi nazi lady is just a horrible person. I made reservations for 8:30PM last night. When my date and I got there, they said that I didnt have a reservation. You can clearly see my name in their book, party of 2, at the sushi bar, at 8:30PM. It was crossed out. When I pointed to it, the hostess said it was someone else. Yeah right. So after she got the old sushi nazi over, they just stared at the book together, giggling stuff in Japanese to each other. After a minute of this, I asked what's going. The oldie and definitely not goodie snapped at me to hold on a minute. I promptly left. Obviously these guys are not going to sweat a brow over losing a few customers (me, my friends, and my coworkers). But its amazing how a sushi restaurant in San Diego can get such attitude. I've been at some of the best sushi places in LA and never got this kind of snobbery. Taka your food is alright, but as another gentlemen on this board pointed out, there's a bunch of other sushi restaurants in San Diego.

    Bad Experience That Lasts

Eight weeks after last dining at Taka we are still upset. My girlfriend and I spend from $200-$280 a night when we visit San Diego, and we visit often. This still was not good enough to be treated nicely. Basically your cattle here, eat, pay, and GET OUT. The worst part was after we purchased the best Sake ($100/bottle), enjoyed about an hour of dining, a smirky young manager/waitress circled our table like a vulture. Then we were told to leave, that our table needed by another couple!!! Worst ever experience in my 20 years of dining out. I will not even get into the Sushi cutter hitting on my girlfriend...

    Taka Sushi - SKIP IT!!!

To say that the service is AWFUL is nasty to the concept of AWFUL. This place combines Stratospherically High prices with TINY portions, all served in miserable cramped conditions by a predominantly brain dead staff. Save your money - and go elsewhere!!! Perhaps they'll close soon and leave this (very nice) 5th Ave location to someone who knows how to run a restaurant properly!
