Boxty
I have been a field fan since opening day, good food, authentic Irish pub surroundings, and of course Irish beer on tap. McCafferty is my beer of choice, for the food take your pick, the corned beef sandwich is lean and tender and filling, Irish stew made with tender lamb peices, rasher (mashed potato with bacon), but I prefere the chicken sage Boxty, (chicken, sage, veggie all wrapped up in a potato pancake with sauce) very good. allthough I went there for lunch last week and the pancake was hard and dry, and the the chicken was also dry it tasted like a preheated fast food not good. I ate half of it and went back to work disappointed. maybe a different chef durring the day I don't know, all the other times I've gone there were at nite.
Best Pub
Best place in San Diego for nice food, great drinks, and unique atmosphere. Far better then the other Pubs. Even when busy their service is good.
great
what a place such a buzz to be back in the olde country. servce, beer, staff and the food was just like mum used to make.made you relax as soon as you walked in as well as steping back in time this is a must go to place cheers to the field
Perfect pub night
From the Irish dancers to the great session, Sunday night at The Field was a treat. Excellent service at the bar in spite of the crowds, and a great manager who quickly dispatched the drunk Marines yelling, "Play some Tool!" to the traditional musicians. The chicken and sage boxty was tasty too!
I LOVE IT Here...
The food here is great and so is the beer. Actually, my ex introduced me and I've been going here a lot ever since. The atmosphere is great and the food is heavy, but Gooood. Great beer and good Bloody Mary's too. I even like the cofee.
GREAT PLACE
WHAT A PLACE BEING BACK THINGS HAVE NOT CHANGED AND THE FOOD,BEER,SERVICE ARE THE SAME.BEST PUB IN SAN DIEGO AND THE MOST IRISH OF IRISH PUBS.THE FOOD HERE IS THE BEST IN TOWN FOR PUB GRUB LIKE BEING BACK IN THE OLDE COUNTRY THE IRISH BREAKFAST IS BY FAR THE GREASTEST CURE FOR A HANGOVER
Authentic Irish grub
Had the Shepherd's pie - excellent. A little salty compared to most American food so you might want some bread or soup to negate the taste. Went during happy hour and so I had some oysters (incredible that it's less than $5!) and curry chips (fries). Good stuff!
Good food/good ambiance
We walked in and felt like we were transported to Ireland. Very fun place. The fish and chips were the best I ever had. The place was dark and fun.
Mixed feelings
When this place first opened it was GREAT... the lamb stew was so good. I loved the dancers, and musicians... and any irish whiskey you wanted. Although within the last year it has seemed to drastically decline in quality. We were really bummed that the service was so bad, and the food was just not worth the money. They try and cram so many people in there it's almost impossible to visit the bathrooms. I don't think we'll go back, and it used to be one of our regular dinner spots. Shakespear Pub & Grill here we come....
ambiance
great ambiance. I liked that the waitress was Irish. good food and beer, though I was there a while back..
don't ruin your st.patrick day there
if you want to get offended by brainless bouncers that could really benefit from brain implants (currently not available) and arrogant waiters, if you want to experience eating on a dirty board, insane dishes (plastic, phew), silverware made of cheap steel, if you want to feel like you're begging to get in, well, go to to "the field". let me know how it was.
